Type Eight: The Protective Challenger
You are a fierce protector who stands up for what they believe in. Your need to appear strong drives much of your life and your decisive nature means you make life choices with conviction. You value being in control and you will take on any challenge head-on. Your inner need for justice motivates you to work towards the record being set straight. In order to protect yourself, you deny any and all vulnerability. You appear as a locked vault when it comes to your own personal feelings. Not usually one to depend on others, you are independent and self-sufficient. Your deepest desire is to have control whether over your own life or the lives of those you love, and you desire protection to maintain this control at all times. Your deepest fear is being powerless and vulnerable, and you work tirelessly to avoid either of those outcomes.
Your strengths come from your ability to make decisions quickly. You are a person who knows what they want and how to get it.
This decisiveness also means you can articulate your feelings well and communicate them to others. Your friends and family frequently know how you are feeling because you express it both through words and your facial expressions and body language. Since others tend to look to you for answers, you are often a leader. In a leadership role, you effortlessly lead others to success. You are a fierce protector, especially of the underdog. You think through situations with logic, and you will make sure people are treated fairly.
Your inner fight for justice can backfire though as you can sometimes disregard others’ opinions and feelings. Blinded by what is right and wrong, you can ignore the humanity of others and disregard their emotions, often severing ties with those who don’t agree with you. Another struggle of yours can be taking the leadership role when it isn’t yours to take, whether in professional or relational settings.
For growth, tend to your thoughts and feelings before jumping to a decision.
As an eight, you are often fueled by the passion to make choices, and it is important to think through things carefully before acting in some situations. You will also see growth in embracing your vulnerability instead of hiding it. Your leadership skills can actually improve when others see you as a human being with a full range of emotions. Learn to listen to your mind and body and know when you’ve reached your limits. You can often run yourself into the ground without even realizing it. For rest, it’s okay to let someone else take the lead at times.
